Microsoft Gives Its Users Incentive To Use Linux
Microsoft (Evil Empire) Posted by Zopemeister on Wednesday February 07, @10:32AM
from the Rather Switch Than Fight dept.
Instead of spending $239-$379 per seat to install Vista, some of the schools found discounted copies to be a really bad deal. Jail time for using pirated copies has convinced many schools in Russia to switch to Linux. There are still those that prefer the commercial software but given a choice between Gulag and Linux - the choice is clear! See the whole story.

  Linux Desktop Dead?
Linux for Business Posted by Zopemeister on Wednesday November 08, @09:43AM
from the Silly Rumours dept.
There are a lot of articles out there claiming "Linux on the desktop is dead". Meanwhile, Sun has expanded its Ubuntu support, Microsoft and Novell are forming a Linux compatibility alliance and Oracle is plotting "Linux World Domination". (Okay, that last one is server stuff).

What do you think? Could Ubuntu replace XP in your office? Could it replace your parent's OS?

  Is there anybody in there?
Linux Posted by MRK on Wednesday October 18, @08:39PM
from the "2004 was a long long time ago...." dept.

Anyone in Southern Indiana hosting a LUG - IMHO it's near the "tipping point" and it would be nice to be able to share the fun when the upside-down pyramid of Window$ finally falters and collapses....

Red Hat Magazine has an article called The first [open source] American about Ben Franklin and his values (which align very nicely with the Open Source movement). Good article - Check it out!

from the Ubuntu News dept.
The lastest version of Ubuntu, Dapper, is out. Get your Intel, Mac or AMD64 running that latest version of Unbuntu. Now in 4 flavors (even the distros have distros?): Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Edubuntu or my fav, Xubuntu (perfect for those auction machines).

  Good Interview with Linus
News Posted by Zopemeister on Friday May 19, @11:39AM
from the Baba Wawa dept.
CNN has an interview with this guy I met at Linux Expo '97 at Duke University. He was there with his wife and newborn first child. I shook hands with him and thanked him for Linux. I still regret not getting him to sign my Slackware book (my first real Linux book). I thought it would be gauche at the time. Oh well, not as gauche as all this name dropping I suppose. Did I mention my brother-in-law's uncle was the COO for Microsoft? :-)
